Kinokuniya continued to develop in large scale bookstores in Japanese cities that are based on the corporate philosophy that provides customers with a wide variety of books and magazines. Kinokuniya believes that the bookstore should function as the centers for buildup culture and art.

In 1966, Kinokuniya launched the first bookstore in Australia that was located in Sydney’s Neutral Bay suburb. This was later re-located on The Galeries shopping center on George Street. Kinokuniya has the largest bookstore chain in Japan with over 80 stores worldwide.
